There's an Ark update arriving for the dinosaur survival game, and it adds expanded story content with cinematics for each Ark map along with additional voice overs for existing content, with Dr Who actor David Tennant among the cast lending their voices to the game's various dossiers and encounters. The Ark Winter Wonderland event is also here, with plenty of opportunities to grab presents and chibis in between taming Ark dinosaurs. Read the rest of the story... Ark: Survival Evolved's third annual Summer Bash has arrived with a bang, and thanks to the event's new in-game items you won't only have to think about taming and caring for the best dinosaurs you can find now - you'll get to be the best dino you can be, too. Well, kind of. That's because the rundown of new items coming to Ark with its annual summer-themed blowout includes an inflatable T-Rex costume that is every bit as hilarious as those ones you'll have no doubt seen pop up in all kinds of memes and clips online. Developer Studio Wildcard has shown off the puffy, plasticky new dino skins with a screen (above) that has an army of them armed with assault rifles and it's - well, it is something. There's also a slightly unnerving clip of an Ark survivor cackling mischievously in a Summer Bash trailer, which you can see below. The event also sees harvesting, taming, and breeding rates dialled up for its duration by up to five times across the survival game's Official, Small Tribe, Arkpocalypse, and Conquest servers. We all know the noble rock drake in Ark: Survival Evolved - it's that massive camouflaged terror that seemingly appears out of nowhere to jack up your day when you make the mistake of poking around its nesting areas. Once tamed, they're the scaly Land Rovers of the sky - gracefully gliding through the air and skillfully clambering up sheer rock faces. As a mount, though, they can be a bit unwieldy - so here's a mod that reduces the size and makes them way more manoeuvrable. The aptly named Small Drake mod is just like Rock Drake, but 50% smaller. What it loses in size, it gains in swimming speed, climbing speed, gliding speed, and turn radius. Sure, you're losing some health and damage output, but you're gaining stamina - and you can still ride these little Fiat 500 Drakes straight up cliffs when the situation calls for it. A custom saddle (without a passenger seat) becomes available at level 70, and a custom Tek saddle is available at level 85 (also without a passenger seat). Just like the larger versions, you can't actually tame the Small Drakes - you have to steal an egg, and then feed the baby using venom you've obtained from knocking out one of the wild female Small Drakes. Some people use Ark: Survival Evolved as a place to roleplay and relax - a bit bizarre given there are ferocious beasts stomping around, but it's possible. Others view it as a kind of online gladiator arena where they can prove themselves against an increasingly difficult set of obstacles. Ever since Ark first released in Early Access, though, the official PvP servers have been home to a third group of players: the mega tribes. These enormous alpha tribes are vying for dominance over one another across multiple servers and locations. For these individuals, Ark isn't just a survival game, it's an all-out war. Every day there are battles being won and lost with strategy, skill, and subterfuge. To find out more about these conflicts and life inside these mega tribes, I reached out to their members, a task that proved more difficult than expected due to the collective secrecy surrounding them. Many of those I spoke to wanted to remain quiet to avoid exposing tribe secrets or angering anyone higher up in the chain of command. Read the rest of the story... Update - April 26, 2021: The new Conquest season times have been confirmed If you're a fan of Ark: Survival Evolved's PvP gameplay, there's some exciting news you might want to make a note of - next week, the action-adventure game's current Classic PvP season will be drawing to a close, and on the same day a new Conquest season will be going live. That's according to an announcement post from Studio Wildcard on the dino-filled survival game's forums, in which the devs reveal that the end of the current Classic PvP season - and the launch of the new Conquest Season 3 - will both be happening on April 27 at 6pm BST / 1pm ET / 10am PT. As ever, Conquest - the mode that builds on the multiplayer game's Small Tribe offering and makes large-tribe PvP gameplay an option for PC players - brings increased rates for things like gain, taming, gathering, breeding, hatching, and raising. The next season will also see 100-player maximum caps again, with tribes allowed to be made of no more than 25 players in total. Read
