It's Thanksgiving, so this is the natural time to add giant fire-breathing Dodos to your game. Sadly you can only summon Ark: Survival Evolved's newest monster after harvesting wishbones from tough Super Turkeys. Alternatively, because this is a survival game in 2015, you can turn those Super Turkey bits into a "Chieftain" hat, modeled above. You reportedly have to throw 1,000 wishbones into a cooking pot to summon the Dodorex, and he vanishes after 15 minutes. That probably isn't worth it. You'll need 60 to craft the new hat at the smithy, and that may also take a while, as Super Turkeys are uncommon creatures. So uncommon in fact that players have reported individual animals dropping more than one wishbone, which isn't how wishbones usually work. The event started yesterday and runs until Tuesday December 1. The game is also 40% off in the current Steam sale, at  13.79 / $ 17.99, until the event is over. Watch the Dodorex in action in the video below. It might be the only one you see this weekend.

As indie survival games go, Ark: Survival Evolved has done pretty well for itself, especially since it's still an Early Access game. Co-Creative Director Jesse Rapczak told Rock, Paper, Shotgun that he attributes much of its success to Studio Wildcard's aggressive approach to updates, saying, "We're always adding new content and the community always has new stuff to do." But he also warned that the frequency of updates will be reduced as the game approaches a full release. "Our pace of updates will slow down a lot as we get towards release, as we don t want to be iterating on new stuff as we try to polish the game," Rapczak said. "We ll see a slowdown. We have a target around the beginning of next year to start locking down and doing a formal alpha and beta period with the game, so that we can ship and really open up our options for release. We don t want it to be one day we release, and we just turn a switch and people are like, Wait a minute! We want there to be a definite exit to early access and then release a very polished game." He also said that Studio Wildcard will soon begin work on a full expansion

Ark's latest dinosaur, the Giganotosaurus Furiosa, is a bottomless well of rage that can eat its way through stone walls and unseat riders whenever it has a temper tantrum. It's slow, but with every hit its "rage reaction" makes its bite more powerful and it gains more stamina. The developers refer to it as a "captial beast of war"—the Super Star Destroyer of the dinosaur world, then. The developers confirm that "fighting a Giganotosaurus directly is always a bad idea", and not only because of its tendency to bite harder when enraged. It can turn on fellow dinosaurs and hunters during tantrums, and has zero respect for buildings. It reminds me of the Horned Reaper from Dungeon Keeper. He can break out of most prisons you can ever build for him, so you're better off keeping him calm and happy. Or else. Ark is being updated regularly at the moment. The dino babies and breeding updated arrived three weeks ago, and the world was invaded by mighty skelesaurs during Halloween.

Ark: Survival Evolved is a survival game set on an island filled with creatures that are now extinct, so it makes sense that the developers would add a mesopithecus, a breed of monkey ("pithecus" means ape) that's no longer around. In the game, these monkeys are useful for throwing poo at people, which is apparently harmful, or even attacking them more directly. You can also throw them over walls, which they don't seem to mind as much as they probably should, so that they can open doors for you. And they can ride around on your shoulder. All while wearing a fetching hat! I kind of wish I had one in real life. I predict they'd be much easier to train than a dinosaur. Those who've been watching the "Survival of the Fittest" tournament would probably also like to know that the final takes place today. You can watch that on Twitch. Thanks, RPS.
